Job Description
Background:
The Danish Refugee Council (DRC) has been present in South Caucasus (Georgia, Azerbaijan and Armenia) since 1996 in response to the mass displacements in the 1990s. Today the region is still suffering from the many conflicts that have resulted in complicated displacement and migration patterns and a difficult socio-economic situation.
The overall objective of DRC’s work in the region is to contribute to the promotion of durable solutions. We do so mainly through interventions that enhance the (re)integration of displacement and conflict-affected populations in social, political and economic processes. Our activities mainly lie within the following types of programmes: Social rehabilitation and community protection (Georgia); Micro-enterprise development (Georgia and Azerbaijan); institutional development (Georgia); shelter/emergency rehabilitation (West Georgia/Abkhazia); civil society/good governance (the whole region).
DRC presently has operational field offices at various locations in Georgia (incl. Abkhazia) and Azerbaijan. The regional management of the programme is carried out at DRC’s regional office that is located in Tbilisi (Georgia).
DUTIES:
The Regional Representative has the overall responsibility for the management, programming, implementation, fundraising and continued development of DRC’s programme in South Caucasus. The Regional Representative is responsible for seeking relevant synergies with other DRC programmes, especially in the North Caucasus. The Regional Representative reports to DRC’s HQ in Copenhagen.
QUALIFICATIONS:
The qualified candidate is a strong and visible manager. Qualified applicants have experience with operating in a very volatile security environment, have extensive management experience, are very familiar with humanitarian principles and practises, are used to represent an international organisation to external partners and authorities and match the requirements listed.
- Minimum 8 years of relevant experience (including 3 year at senior management level) in international emergency and/or post-conflict settings, preferably with refugees and/or IDP
- University degree in management, public administration, international development, social science or the equivalent
- The ability to relate to donors and authorities in a professional manner and to negotiate and advocate for solutions that serve the needs of our beneficiaries
- Experiences of strategic programming and planning, organisational development, field implementation, monitoring and evaluation
- Experience in donor contact, fundraising and networking
- Excellent negotiation, communication and drafting skills
- Excellent written and spoken English.
OUR CONDITIONS:
- Commencement: App. 1 July 2008
- Duty Station: Tbilisi, Georgia with frequent travels, both in the region and if necessary to other relevant locations. Family duty station.
- Contract: App. 12 months with possibility of extension.

- The position is placed at level A2.
